Shirley Manson was born on 26th of August 1966 in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has two sisters, one younger and one older. Her mother was a singer and father a professor. Not financially poor, but difficult childhood anyway: as redhaired girl she was often teased and even beaten by her classmates. From happy little girl she got to nervous, anxious and depressed person. In teenage years she started drinking, smoking and hanging around with much older company, severely affecting her grades. At the age of 16 she joined her boyfriend's band as a backup singer and keyboard player. The band had no great success and broke up. She joined the band "Angelfish", which scored few hits, but broke up also. Then she auditioned for newly formed Garbage group. Garbage was a big success with their four albums to date: Garbage (1995), Version 2.0 (1998), Beautiful Garbage (2001), Bleed Like Me (2005), plus greatest hits album Absolute Garbage (2007).
